Welcome to Key Stage One!

Your teachers this year are Mrs Wilson, Miss Douglas and Miss Styles!

Our principal communication initially will be via Seesaw so please check that regularly and upload any homework, reading or activities you complete at home onto the website.

Please send your child’s book bag in with them every day as there will be opportunities to read with adults in school. They will be set 3 new reading books on a Friday. One of these books will be their levelled reading book and this will be an eBook. They will also get a book to share with you and a library book of their choice to promote a love for reading.

We are delighted to be welcoming your children into our class and are looking forward to a great year!

Art

KS1 enjoyed being creative this afternoon. We were inspired by the artist Beth Krommes and her waves pattern. We listened to music and chose different materials while using swirls and curved lines to create abstract art that made us think of the sea.

Booksy Bookworm!

We have a new member of our class! Booksy loves going home with a star reader and listening to their stories.

English – The great Fire of London

We have been learning about The Great Fire of London in history and English this month and we have found it so interesting. We have used drama to take us back in time and imagine what it would have been like living in 1666.

Maths – Representing and Partitioning Numbers

Year 1 have been learning how to represent numbers in different ways. We have used lots of practical equipment like cubes and numicon to help us with our understanding of place value. Year 2 have worked so hard this week identifying the value of the tens and ones within given numbers and are becoming really confident at partitioning numbers into tens and ones using place value charts and part whole models. We then challenged ourselves this week by looking at different ways to partition numbers.
