Nursery Foundation phonics

Developing the skills to read starts in Nursery.  We read to children daily exposing them to a world of stories.  We use the Little Wandle Foundation programme to nurture pre reading skills such as syllable counting, hearing rhyme in songs and learning a repertoire of nursery rhymes. 

Reception – Little Wandle Reading Scheme

Little Wandle is a phonics programme which helps all children learn to read fluently and at speed so they can focus on developing their skills in comprehension, vocabulary and spelling. The programme is designed for children aged 4-7. 

Your child will be read to 3 times weekly in school and will be provided with a reading book to read together. Our home school partnership with reading will help your child become a fluent and confident reader.

Early Writing

Our aim is to develop your child into an imaginative story teller, using a wide and exciting vocabulary to help them share their stories with you. 

To do this we use Talk4Writing. This is a programme where children use actions to retell stories and innovate these well-known texts to invent their own creative pieces. By the end of Reception your child will have the skills to write short stories using their phonic skills.
