At Prudhoe Castle First School we use the Design Technology Association, Projects on a Page, to deliver the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Our Design and Technology curriculum encourages children to learn to think and intervene creatively to solve problems both as individuals and as members of a team. At Prudhoe Castle First School, we encourage children to use their creativity and imagination to design and make products that ‘solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts.’ During product design they consider their own and others’ needs, wants and values. We ensure that there are clear links across our curriculum including through the disciplines of mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Children are expected to reflect upon and evaluate past and present design technology, its uses and its effectiveness and are encouraged to become innovators and risk-takers.
At Prudhoe Castle First School we offer a wide range of first hand experiences through our links with designers and engineers, who lead workshops and question and answer sessions. Our ultimate aim is that our curriculum prepares our children for their next step in education and beyond, creating capital culture at the same time as celebrating and learning from local successes, both current and historical in the fields of Design and Engineering and their wider impact on the world.
